Insulation is your friend

A well-insulated home will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
We designed our home with 2 x 6 walls sheeted with 3/4-inch plywood. Per fire
code, we added a layer of drywall and then applied our hardwood siding. We
filled our 6-inch wall with R-19 insulation. This combination of layers created a
strong, fire-resistant, well-insulated home. When building your home, think of
ways to best insulate yourself from your local environment. Spend time
researching average weather patterns and temperatures so that you can build
with these events in mind.
